Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Ensure compatible Avaya IP phone is powered off.

  1. Position module: Place on desk next to phone or mount on wall using provided hardware.
  2. Connect to phone: Use supplied cable to connect expansion module port to the expansion port on back of compatible Avaya J-Series phone.
  3. Secure connection: Ensure cable is firmly seated in both ports.
  4. Power on phone: Plug phone into power; expansion module will power up automatically.

WARNING! Do not force connectors. Ensure phone is powered off before connecting module to prevent damage.

First-Time Setup

After physical installation, configure via phone administration interface.

  1. Verify detection: Phone should recognize module automatically; check for module LEDs illuminating.
  2. Access configuration: Log into phone's web interface or use phone settings menu.
  3. Assign button functions: Navigate to expansion module settings; assign each button as line, speed dial, BLF, or feature key.
  4. Test functionality: Place test call using newly programmed speed dial or line key.

Connecting Devices

Only connects directly to compatible Avaya J-Series IP phone.

  1. Ensure phone is powered off.
  2. Align cable connector correctly with expansion port on back of phone.
  3. Firmly push connector into port until it clicks.
  4. Connect other end to expansion module.
  5. Power on phone; verify module LEDs light up.

Tip: Route cable neatly to avoid strain on connectors.

Programming Buttons

Buttons are programmed via the phone's administrative interface.

  1. Log into phone web interface (default IP address via phone menu).
  2. Navigate to "Expansion Module" or "Sidecar" settings.
  3. Select button to configure (Button 1-20).
  4. Choose function: Line, Speed Dial (enter number), BLF (enter extension), Feature.
  5. For speed dial: Enter label (name) and number.
  6. Save configuration; changes apply immediately.
  7. Label buttons: Insert paper strips with written labels for easy identification.

WARNING! Do not use abrasive materials on button surfaces. Program while phone is idle.
